Plot

Blade Babji (Allari Naresh) is a pickpocket who takes up the mission of earning 4 crores to rescue the slum dwellers in his area from a builder. He and his gang go to Vizag and rob a bank. And they hide the loot in a building under construction. They were forced to go away for a month and when they return they find a police control room at the spot where they hidden their loot. In order to retrieve the loot, Blade Babji takes the position of newly joined Krishna Manohar (spoof of Pokiri) by kidnapping him. The rest of the story is all about the comedy of errors that followed.

Artists Performance

It is a typical character for Allari Naresh and he entertains. Actress Sayali Bhagat is adequate. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam is good. This film has all comedians like Brahmananda, Krishna Bhagawan, Melkote, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and Venu Madhav. They all have interesting roles in the film.

Story - Screenplay - Direction

Basic storyline of the film is inspired by a Hollywood film called Blue Streak (1999). A few scenes from this film are also borrowed. This film runs on comedy of errors and the director could come up with a decent screenplay. Direction is adequate. The director could able to generate continuous laughs. The spoofs of Pokiri and Tammudu are good.
Other departments

Music is mediocre. This film does not need songs. Cinematography is just average. Dialogues are good. Production values should have been better.

Analysis

Inspired by Blue Streak (1999), the director Devi Prasad could able to generate entertainment with decent screenplay and good comedy timing. Blade Babji sports entertainment value and mass orientation. This film would do really well in B and C centers and may fare decently in A centers. You may watch ‘Blade Babji’ for some comic relief.

Hero Telugu Film Review

Radha Krishna (Nitin) is the son of the Commissioner of Police Nagendra Naidu (Nagababu), who has the support of his mother Sarala (Kovai Sarala) for his careless attitude. The Home Minister of the State (Babumohan) passes a G.O. that allows every honest individual to join the police force so as to bring in more people into maintaining the law and order of the land. A whole mob of people (Sravana Sandhya, Brahmanandam, Satyam Rajesh, Tirupathi Prakash, Tarzan, Priyanka, etc.) including a homely Krishnaveni (Bhavana) queue up at the Police Academy headed by (Ramyakrishna). Eventually, it's learnt that one of those who joined the Academy thus is a naxalite on the run! Was it wrong to allow everyone into the police force?

Performances

Cast:

Nitin does an okay job, but his character is much limited and doesn't give much scope to emote. He has a differently styled attire, which fits him okay. Bhavana looks the girl next door and performs okay, but her character is shallow too. Nagababu as the Commissioner of Police has a lengthy role to play and he's his usual. Ramyakrishna has a short role as the Director of the A.P. Police Academy. Kapil Khanna as the professional killer from Dubai is fitting. Kota Srinivasa Rao as the main villain Prem Kumar has a rolethat seriously lacks depth or definition. Brahmanandam, Satyam Rajesh, Tirupathi Prakash, Ali and all others are all wasted, like the rest of the lead cast. Tanu Royappears in an item song that's totally unnecessary for the film.

Technical Departments

The plot point that anyone can join the police force is innovative. However, the screenplay is totally flat. The first half lacks any story movement, yet has an interesting interval bang. However, the debutant director G.V. fails in keeping the interest through the second half. The taking is seriously affected by various inconsistencies. While his story narration and screenplay seem to be good, he somehow fails in the overall job of running the direction department well. Camerawork is particularly good, but DI work brings in inconsistencies pertaining to focus and lighting. Picturization of songs is okay, but the song placement is totally nonsensical. Choreography offers good moments to the hero to portray his skill but is not a wow. The sets used for songs indicate commendable work bythe Art department. Fights are executed in style, without any slow-motion highlighting, which makes them worth watching. Dialogues are just okay, but they could have more punch given the theme of the film. Music score is good, but some of the tunes are directly lifted - sye kurraaDE... from Shake it ( Naksha), naa vayasE puvvula poTlam... from prEm jaal mein... ( Jis Des Mein Ganga Rahta Hai), and parts of Yahoo Yahoo... from Hutch phone ammaayi... ( Godava); Don and Crazy Frog tracks can be heard all over the film. as a part of the BGM. Lyrics by Anantha Sriram leave much to expect, while Bhaskarabhatla's mass-oriented song delivers with the goods. Lyrics could have been affected by the improper song placement too. Editing could have been much crisper. Costumes for the lead roles are eye-catching. However, giving branded wear and formal attires to the imprisoned villain and to Brahmanandam doesn't make much sense; makeup and hairstyling for the lead artistes complements the costumes and brings in a stylish look to the hero and a homely looks to the heroine, as appropriate to their characters. Production values are rich, and the debut producer Ramesh should be appreciated for spending lavishly for the film; how much of it was useful is a different question.

Last Word

Hero doesn't seem like a run of the mill story, but the novelty is lost soon. The taking and shallow characterizations mar the film. Not even one character is rightly established in the film! Add to this the quite improper song placement, and ill logic, and all these aspects together influence the film's run.

Keka Movie Review

Keka Movie Credits

Editing: Shankar,
Choreography: Shankar, Suchitra,

Executive producer:
K Jagadeesh Reddy,
Story, screenplay, dialogues, produced and directed by: Teja

Review

Teja started his journey in filmdom with 'Chitram' made on the line of immature teenage love. Later, he made the love stories 'Nuvvu Nenu' & 'Jayam', with which he raised the craze for his film amongst youth and carved a niche for himself as a director in the industry.

'Lakshmi Kalyanam', 'Oka Vichitram' the films which followed 'Jayam' failed badly. With this blow he took a gap of 2years. He returned back now with his latest 'Keka' introducing Raja (son or lyricist Sirivennella Seetharama Sasty) and Ishana as lead pair. Produced on Chitram Movies banner, the film is released on 23rd backed by lot of expectations cause of extensive publicity. Here we present a review on the film.

The protagonist Arjun (Raja) goes for fishing with his friends. He meets Sujatha (Ishana) there, and their introduction blossoms into love. Sujatha’s parents are against their love and arrange her marriage with Kiran (Anup) who happens to be a close friend of Arjun. Learning about the marriage fixing, Arjun leaves for Kolkata just to keep away from Sujatha. There in Kolkatha a group tries to attack and kill Arjun. What is the reason for it? Did Kiran marry Sujatha? Was it a happy ending for their love story? To find answers to all these questions one has to go and watch Keka.

Performance of Artists

Raja son of popular lyrics writer Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry, is debuted as a hero with Keka. His acting is a mere ok and not filled with flaws. But his body language, costumes and hairstyle does not impress the viewers, in fact it’s very bad.

Ishana from Ajmer is introduced as a heroine. She is the main attraction to the film. Her portrayal of Sujatha is not so plausible. If she improves her acting skill, there are chances for her to get better offers. Dharmavarapu Subrahmaniyam & Rallapalli who appear regularly in Teja's films, are seen in a cameo and tried their best to deliver whatever they got within the allotted roles.

Anup as Kiran, Basha, Talaivaasal Vijay, Duvvasi Mohan, Moil Swamy, Vaiyyapuri, Bengali actor Nimmu Bhoumik have presented an average performance.

Technical Values

The photography of PC Sriram is the special attraction to the film. His work in featuring the songs is excellent.

For the first time Chakri has composed music for Teja's film. Although they are not very catchy, the songs are not cacophonous either.

Director’s Portrayal

For those who watched 'Chitram' and 'Nuvvu Nenu' the earlier films of Teja, will wonder if 'Keka' is made by the same director himself. He took 2 years gap to reconsider the points which failed the films he made before Keka. This time also he missed to focus on the script part of the film and concentrated only on music and photography in Keka.

While watching ‘Keka’ it makes the audience wonder whether the director has the stamina in him to deliver quality movies as he did earlier. He was incognito for almost two years and now his comeback doesn’t reflect much of an improvement in his directional skills.

Cons

Every time film goers expect an innovative story line but Keka has the same old story with a not so new screenplay. A bad flaw is that not even a single scene could reap applause from the audience. Comical attempts by the new comers doesn’t evoke laughter but is simply disgusting

The serious dialogues delivered by the heroine sound funny. Kiran's character looks childish and immature. Although the technicalities are good, they are wasted cause of the void in script, the film appears as a soulless body.

Criticism

One was expecting director Teja to comeback refreshingly different after his long penance but alas! The maker didn’t understand the core concept of film making even after this break and did Keka in the same dud formula. The scenes that are projected on screen are senseless and boring one after the other. In short, Teja’s Keka is one more dud that desperately fails to impress. It just reaps an ultimatum for the creative director.

Three Telugu Film Review

Movie Crew:
Banner: Raj (India) Entertainments
Music: Vijay Kurakula
Editing: Tirupati Reddy
Lyrics: Vanamali
Story, Screenplay And Directed by: Shekkar Suri
Release Date: Oct 17, 2008
Cast: Rishi, Urvashi Sharma, Rajeev Kanakala, Harshavardhan, Shanti Chandra, Giri etc

Plot

Nisha (Urvashi Sharma) is haunted by bizarre sounds and a voice that keeps warning that would kill her. Terrified Nisha seeks help from her neighbor SriRam (Rishi) who is a photojournalist with National Geographic Channel. He takes her to a psychiatrist (Harshavardhan) and diagnosis reveals that Nisha’s condition is normal. However, docs come to conclusion that she might be suffering from schizophrenia. On other hand, Nisha reveals that the voice she keeps listening is similar to that of Shankar whom she met on a trip to an island. Now, Nisha, Sriram and the psychiatrist set for finding Shankar in an island forest. After settling in a hotel in the jungle, they meet an eccentric person named Rajeev (Rajeev Kanakala). The rest of the drama is unraveling the suspense of how Nisha is connected with Rajeev, Shankar and others.

Performances

Bollywood actress Urvashi Sharma makes the debut but she is okay. Rishi is perfectly suited for his role and he does his best. Rajeev Kanakala brings energy to the movie. In fact, his entry brings the momentum into the story. Shanti Chandra who is also producer of the movie looks like a cardboard without any expressions. Harsha Vardhan as psychiatrist tries to provide comic relief. His dialogues are not that effective though. Cinematography movie is brilliant. Cinematography by Senthil Kumar and newcomer Bhaskar Shyamala is top rate and excellent. Balloon lights (for even lighting in the night effect) are used for some scenes and even in the normal lights the camerawork is in high standards. The interesting point is that both of the cameramen have similar style of lighting and work. Vijaya Kurakala’s recording is good but at times it is loud and gimmickry. Director Shekkar Suri fails big time.

Technical Departments

Sekhar Suri (now changed spell to Shekkar Suri) comes with super natural/ para normal thriller ‘Three’. His last film, A Film By Aravind, was a hit. After a gap of three years, he directs this thriller. Let’s get to the straight. Three is farce with pretentious technical standards. It is uninteresting, illogical, and superficial. Well, the film’s theme of ‘past life regression’ (a therapy that allows persons to go into past life and know their identity in gata janma) might be novel but the outcome is silly and illogical. Especially the climax is more like a comedy than a thriller. Other than excellent cinematography and rerecording (at times it is loud and gimmickry), Three is a wasted attempt.

The director heavily indulges in gimmickry and creates unnecessary tension for normal scenes like hero drinking water, taking a nap, etc.

The entire story is set in night but we don’t know whether it happens in one night or series of nights. Except the main characters, you don’t find any other people in the movie as if the forest is completely deserted. There are so-many loopholes in the script and the theme defies the logic. The entire first half was an futile exercise with no story.

Last Word

Thrillers either should scare you or should have ‘solid script’ with logic. But Three lacks both of them. All the while, Sekhar Suri tries to mislead the audiences with his weird camera angles making us to believe something extraordinary would happen in the end but actually it ends up with silly and illogical. A very superficial film with high technical standards. If you believe ‘past life theories’ and para natural forces, you might find it is okay but those who have rational thinking would surely despise it.

Nenu Meeku Telusa Movie Review

Aditya (Manoj Manchu) has a strange disorder. His memory keeps refreshing every night he sleeps, but he wakes up with a blank mind every day. Only two people (his uncle and his personal doctor) know about his problem. He falls in a situation where he is accused of a murder. The rest of the story is all about how he rescues himself.

Artists Performance

Manoj Manchu: To do a film like 'Nenu Meeku Telusa?' is a brave and risky decision for a guy like Manoj Manchu who has a supporting father and his own banner. Manoj Manchu comes up with a neat performance as a guy suffering from recurring amnesia. His comedy timing is superb and his dialogues gel well with the concept of the film. The risky jumps he has done during the 8 and half minute chase sequence are excellent. His imitation of Mohan Babu and Ravi Teja got tremendous applause.

Other actors: Riya Sen did the role of current love interest of hero. She is pretty good. Sneha Ullal is nice as the college love of the hero. Nassar plays the role of hero's uncle. Brahmanandam entertains as a fashion designer with the punch line 'what the frock!' Sunil is adequate. Surekha Vani's 'Sri Lakshmi Ganapati Films' commentary is entertaining.

Story - Screenplay - Direction

The basic plot of the film is slightly inspired by a Hollywood film called 'Clean Slate (1994)'. It is very thin story line and films of this type of story lines should have been told in duration of one and half hour. Since this movie is aimed for two and half hours of duration, the director had to insert some subplots and prolonged flashback which has very little relevance to the main story line. Screenplay of the film is adequate in the first half, but needs improvement in the second half. Direction of the film is good in parts. The director could able to narrate a serious plot in the first half by injecting humor through hero's characterization. The following things are good in the film –
The way hero's character is introduced and established.
8 and half minutes exciting yet hilarious chase sequence in the first half.
Manoj imitating Mohan Babu.
The picturization of enno enno song
The Brahmanandam's title rolling scene

The following things should have been taken care of:
Hero records his voice in an audio cassette and plays in a tape recorder. And if the tape is gspoiled, the entire exercise is futile. In this modern age, we have the facility of digital recording and computer. The audio tapes of hero are also stored in cassette format in doctor's office. (Probably the director used it for the screenplay convenience.)
The chase sequence is superb. But it has nothing to do with the main story of the film.
The friend's characters are introduced elaborately in the flashback format. But what do the friends have to do with story of the film? A song followed by a couple of scenes and confrontation would have been fine for the flashback episode.

Other departments

Music of the film is good. The songs that standout in the film are title song and enno enno. Cinematography of the film is nice. But the colors used are very unnatural. The entire flashback episode has bleaching effect which does not look good. The editing cuts are too sharp and they disturb your eyes. The chase sequence composed by Manoj and Tim Robbins is superb. CG work is nice. Production values are good.

Last Word

First half of the film is decent. The tempo in the second half goes down. The climax of the film is alright. The plus points of the film are Manoj's performance and story idea. The negative points are length of the film and unnatural colors. This kind of story should be narrated in 1 and half hours. In order to make this film a two and half hour runtime film, the director had to add more sub plots and extend the flashback. On whole, Nenu Meeku Telusa? is strictly a multiplex film and is meant for elite audiences who look out for the 'out of the box' films. The general crowd might not like it. But the team of NMT must be appreciated for breaking the shackles of doing routine and formulaic films in order to do a different film.

Kotha Bangaru Lokam Film Review

Balu (Varun Sandesh) is son of lovable middleclass couple (Prakash Raj & Jayasudha). Swapna (Sweta Basu Prasad) is the daughter of a strict and rich father. Both of them study in a residential college located at a small town of Godavari district. Balu and Swapna fall in love. Swapna is withdrawn from the residential school because her father comes to know about her love. The rest of the story is all about how Balu and Swapna try to get back to each other.

Artists Performance

Varun Sandesh shows improvement in this film compared to his debut in Happy Days. He suited the character of the film very well and he needs to work strongly on getting diction right. His boyish charm wins you over. Sweta Basu Prasad (award winning child actress from Iqbal film) is very good and she perfects her role with her childlike innocent look. However, there is a bit of inconsistency in the dubbing in the initial part of the film.

Other actors: Jayasudha and Prakash Raj play a perfect couple like they did in Bommarillu film. However, Jayasudha's role is more meaningful and vital in this film. Ahuti Prasad is good as the father of heroine. Rao Ramesh who impressed everybody in his radical portrayal in Gamyam did the key character of a lecturer in the film. He is very good though he appears to have gone little over board in the class room scenes. This film has lots of fresh faces as friends of hero and heroine. And all of them are natural and add some value to the film. Brahmanandam character offers variety.

Technical departments
Story, Screenplay & Direction

Story of the film is about parenting. This film has got an arresting narration and intelligent screenplay in the second half. The debutant director Srikanth Addala comes up with a script that offers lot of freshness. There are many scenes and situations in the film which would have gone the clichéd way, but the director makes sure that he avoids clichéd and melodramatic scenes. He could able to conceive the emotional scenes in the second half excellently. Dil Raju offers another gem of a director in the form of Srikanth Addala through Kotha Bangaram Lokam after giving us Sukumar (Arya) and Bhaskar (Bommarillu).

Cinematography

I stopped writing separate paragraphs for individual technical departments in my reviews long back. But I think Chota K Naidu's work in this film deserve a separate para. I see Tamil cinematographers ruling the Telugu film industry and wondered why Telugu cinematographers can't come up with such stuff. Today I felt really happy that Chota K Naidu gave a fitting reply to everybody that a Telugu cinematographer can come up with a fabulous stuff. The entire film is like picture postcard photography. You can take any frame in the film and send it as a postcard. The colors and lighting used for the film are highly pleasing to your eyes. The way he has shown the Godavari bridge is entirely different from what we have seen in the earlier films.

Other Departments

Music of the film is exceptionally great. Mickey J Meyer repeats his magic after Happy Days with this film. The background music and re-recording of the film is equally good. Dialogues by the director Srikanth Addala are very good. Marthand K Venkatesh's editing is smooth. Artwork by Prakash is nice. The CG work by Pixelloid and the DI work also deserve a special mention. Producer Dil Raju made sure that he spends lot of money and quality time on this film. He continues his marathon of classic hits after Arya and Bommarillu with this film.

Analysis

First of the film is decent and the second half is excellent. Like Bommarillu, this film too deals with the problem of parents and kids. In that film, they tried to balance between parents and kids, this film takes some bias towards parents as the kids in this film are doing intermediate unlike the graduates in Bommarillu. If Happy Days makes you feel nostalgic about your engineering college days, KBL will make you feel nostalgic about your intermediate days in a residential college. This film sends good message out to the society. The only thing I did not like in the entire film is that the filmmaker has shown Ahuti Prasad (father of the girl) as a bakra. Coming to my rating statistics, my last 4 rated film was Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (January 2005), my last 4.5 rated film was Bommarillu (August 2006) and my last 3.5 rated film was Happy Days (September 2007). Kotha Bangaru Lokam film deserves a rating of 4. Go, watch the film and pamper yourself..

Kausalya Supraja Rama Review

If you're thinking that the three words of the Telugu film titled Kousalya Supraja Rama has anything to do with the first three words from the sloka in Venkateswara Suprabhatam, then you're mistaken.

Kousalya Supraja Rama begins with a man wheeling a woman into a hospital and taking care of the treatment leaving the audience wondering on the relationship between the man and the woman. Well, that is answered later. For now, the man is the quintessential Good Samaritan Sriram and the story revolves around him.

In a nutshell, the film directed by Surya Prasad for Suresh Productions (Dr D Rama Naidu's production house) entertains while it delves into the virtue of being good and doing the same.

Sriram, a software professional, runs into girl as she is being chased by a few men. He is misinformed by the men that she is their sister and Sriram lets them know where she's hiding. But when he sees the way they are treating her, he sees things are amiss and bashes up the goondas.

Meanwhile, one of them throws a heavy object at the girl and she is hit on the back of the head. Before she loses consciousness, she tells Sriram she is married to Ravi against her father and his parents' wishes.

Sriram takes care of her (calls her Lakshmi) treatment and is told she has to be operated for a clot in the brain and that surgery would cost him Rs 10 lakh. In order to raise that amount (over six months) he applies for a loan and asks his boss (Kota) to stand in as guarantor. Kota sets off to the USA leaving his house and his pet dog Rosy in Sriram's care.

Soon after Sriram becomes a Good Samaritan, making a difference to all the lives of all the people he meets, but not before the plot meanders. The film is reminiscent of earlier movies where one saw these good characters doing good deeds.

It's rather brave on director Surya Prasad's part to take such a story in today's times. Of course he fits in quite a few songs and dances along with his old-wine-in-new-bottle story.

There is nothing path-breaking or trend-setting in the storyline/screenplay. The second half tends to be longer than the first considering it is filled with all the melodrama, emotion et al. Humour at times is pretty crass and repetitive.

Performance

The performances, particularly Srikkanth's make the film work. Srikkanth is sincere in this film and one can certainly watch it for him. He is able to effortlessly switch between portraying the Good Samaritan and happily sing and dance too.

Charmee too shifts gears from being a glam doll to an actor to some extent. Gauri Munjal is passable. Kota and Tanikella Bharani as the respective fathers carry their roles well. Brahmanandam, Ali, Krishna Bhagwan, Venu Madhav, L B Sriram are okay.

Kousalya Supraja Rama offers middling entertainment in the holiday season.

Chintakayala Ravi Telugu Film Review

Chintakayala Ravi (Venkatesh) works in a bar in USA and pretends to his sentimental mother (Lakshmi) back in India as if he is working as a software engineer leading a fancy lifestyle in USA. His mother sets up a girl called Lavanya (Mamata Mohandas) as Ravi's match. Lavanya asks her New York buddy Sunita (Anushka) to find out the conduct of Chintakayala Ravi. The rest of the story is all about what happened between Ravi, Lavanya and Sunita.

Artists Performance

Venkatesh did his trademark comedy and sentiment in the film. He is excellent. Anushka is nice in the role of the main heroine. Mamata Mohandas is good in this film compared to her earlier outings in Telugu film industry. Lakshmi impresses in this film like she did for Murari film. Comedy by Sunil as Pendurti Babu is satisfactory. Child artist Bharat did well in the climax of the film though his character is underdeveloped. Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav and Srinivasa Reddy are adequate as the friends of hero. Arti Chabia did an item song. Ajay did a completely different role convincingly. Ali's character is like an extension of her Nachmi character in Chiruta film. Nikita is very cute with her own dubbing. Venu did a vital yet small role. NTR sizzles in 'Shava Shava' song and entertains the crowds. Prakash Raj gave voiceover to this film in the initial scenes and in the climax and his narration is an asset.

Technical Departments

Story of the film is simple and predictable. But the backdrop of USA offers some variety. Direction by Yogesh is partly OK. He could able to introduce and establish all primary characters well. But he could not run the story with interesting narration in the middle of the film. But he manages the climax decently. He handles some of the humor scenes well. However there are a few inspired comedy scenes like exam scene (Mr. Bean series), kitikilu 2008 (windows 2008 Telugu version forward mail) etc. There is some toilet humor too. Narration of the film is slow.

Other departments

Music by Vishal Sekhar is an asset to the film. Bagunde Bagunde followed by Enduko is the best on the screen. Mani Sharma scored background music. Dialogues by Kona Venkat are good. A couple of dialogues like 'akkada (USA) sanduko vanda software engineers vuntaru' and 'aavida data whorehousing (data warehousing) lo work chestundi' are entertaining in the first half. Cinematography by Ravindra Babu is good. He shot the USA part very well. The visuals are rich. Nallamapulu Bujji should be appreciated for spending good money on budget to make a film with rich visuals and sound by hiring the best of technicians and cast for the job.

Final Word

The first half an hour of the film is pretty good. It slows down after that and the film picks up again from the last song (bagunde bagunde). The plus points of the film are Venkatesh and mother sentiment. On the flip side, the latter part of the first half and the former part of the second half should have been made in an interesting way. The mother sentiment and the marriage ambiance towards the climax could attract the Venky's strong base of family crowds. On a whole, Chintakayala Ravi is an ok film if you can excuse bit of screenplay glitches in the middle of the film.
