Nagarjuna Acting in Durga Arts Films
The production house Durga Arts’ first movie was ‘Kshana Kshanam’ starring Venkatesh and Sridevi, by director Ram Gopal Varma. The saga of their first success was carried out in the movies like ‘Hello Brother’ with Nagarjuna and NTR’s ‘Rakhi’. Producer KL Narayana of Durga Arts was out for awhile after these hit films.
Srinivas Reddy and Shivaji planning for hat-trick
Director Srinivas Reddy’ first was 'Ashadam Pellikoduku' starring Ali and a suspense action entertainer 'February 14 Neckless Road' became his next hit. Movies that came after these two turned out as duds and made a halt pushing his career into a question mark.
His major break came along with the success of 'Adirindayya Chandram' with Shivaji. The rejuvenated maker made a series of hits 'Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila', 'Yamagola Malli Modalaindi', 'Bommana Brothers Chandana Sisters' after the break.

Artists' performance
Sonia who was appreciated for her role as Shravs in 'Happy Days' exhibited good performance as a solo heroine in this film. She could be applauded for presenting sensitive emotions very well in some sequences.
Krishnudu who was popular with 'Happy Days' has bought the character Karthik to life. As the subject is suitable to his physique, never he seems to be acting in the role. In every scene, he exhibited apt expressions and justifies the role of 'Vinayakudu' cent-per-cent. He has literally lived out the character.
Action of Poonam Kaur as Sandy, Surya Teja as Altaf is good. To be specific, Surya Teja has exhibited much ease in performing his character. Satya Krishnan as Karthik's sister does good. Similarly, Ankith, Adarsh and Murali Krishna have emoted within the limits of their characters. After a long gap, actress Tulasi does a role in this film. Presenter Premkumar Patra, director Sai Kiran Adivi and cameraman PG Vinda appears on screen in short sequences.
Last Word
For Pure love, physical beauty is not important, only the purity in love is needed, with this beautiful message as the theme the film 'Vinayakudu' has made. What could have been a feel good entertainer for the entire crowd lags behind for it has been made pointedly for the corporate audiences. It would have been even better if it was made for everyone. But still on a whole, the debutant director Sai Kiran has hit the bull’s eye almost with his very first venture.

Avakai Biryani Review
Avakai Biryani Review
Movie Crew
Cast: Kamal Kamaraju, Bindu Madhavi, Rao Ramesh, Varun Jonnada, Praneeth, Kameshwara Rao Others
Cinematography: Shyam Datt
Art: Narayana Reddy
Choreography: Prem Rakshit
Music: Manikanth Kadri
Lyrics: Vanamali
Analog Editing: K. Ravindra Babu
Digital Editing: Praveen Boyina
Producers: Sekhar Kammula, Chandrasekhar Kammula
Direction: Anish Kuruvilla (debut)
Release Date: November 14, 2008
Plot
After movies like Dollar Dreams, Anand, Godavari and the teen hit Happy Days, Sekhar Kammula's brand of cinema has been established, and more importantly, appreciated. Avakai Biryani sounds so interesting, and one would expect entertaining, clean (clean entertainment being the key word here), feel-good cinema coming from the Kammula clan. Directed by Anish Kuruvilla, fiery film maker who expressed himself in his debut Confessions of a Filmmaker, Avakai Biryani starts off on a promising note but ends up being a disappointment.
Mainly, there is nothing novel or refreshing in it-a Hindu-Muslim love story in a rural set-up with relatively new faces and everyday situations and people. Where Kammula gets the audiences' attention is with a tight script that refuses to drag and ends at the right time, humor and scintillating music; all the departments where Kuruvilla's feature debut lacks.
Akbar, an orphan in Devarakonda is a part-time auto driver, paper boy and B.Com fail (3 times). Laxmi is a potential Avakai entrepruener, newly shifted to this village and a B.Com graduate. Their love story intercepted with village politics and dynamics, their dreams and aspirations, heartbreak and survival in their lives is what this combination is all about.
Story, Screenplay and Direction
The lack of consistency is an issue. The first 20 minutes and introduction to the village and Akbar's life is endearing. You expect an Iqbal. There is a lot of detail in some of the scenes and nothing looks out-of-place. Post-break though, the movie slows down tremendously. After the Auto-race...which is actually a really neat idea. The whole movie is full of really neat ideas. All those ideas work on paper and must have seemed like a good idea to put all those neat ideas together. Still would have been, if it wasn't for all the fillers and the last one hour which drags and drags till Laxmi's family set their hotel up.
The problem is, you expect a whole lot from that team. Because if you compare this movie with the last few Telugu releases (with one exception) this is Paradise (Heaven tends to get a little boring after a point, of course). But in general, there is nothing that makes this movie a memorable experience. This is also Formula, if you come down to it. Unfortunately or otherwise, bigger or at least better things are expected out of this team. And they better live up to it.
Crisper editing, more humor and better music could have made a huge difference to the movie. Using Devarakonda as opposed to some nameless village, portrayal of village dynamics, Akbar's journey in general, Auto race and CM's visit are the pros. Dragdragdrag in the second half and lack of stronger line post break are major cons.
Performances
Kamal Kamaraju is believable and has good chemistry with Bindu Madhavi as Laxmi. Bndu Madhavi is raw and new, and it might take a movie or two more to understand her potential. She looks the part of course. Akbar's friends add some flavor to the movie while Rao Ramesh as Masterji is another Villain (we like villains here, don't we?). Laxmi's brother-sister: cute, well-written characters you can identify with and the kids justify thier roles. Laxmi's parents (stereotyped) are okay.
Music and Dance
The music is not bad, but that's about the best you can say about it. The romantic song post-break is sweet. The celebration song is peppy, and the choreography decent but seriously routine. Gives you awful déjà vu. The background score is okay.
Last Word
Some of us have gotten this remark forever on our report card- 'Can Do Better'. Hopefully, Kuruvilla's next won't carry the same remark. There is potential. That much is obvious; we need to wait and watch. Just not Avakai Biryani-it's not totally fullfilling.

A US-aspiring software engineer Ajay (Ranadheer), a wanna-be police turned security man Kiran (Narasimha Uthkam), and an assistant film director Subbu (Subhash) are friends in Hyderabad trying to live their dreams. Veerababu a.k.a. Babu (Nikhil) , outcast from his uncle's family, joins them from Kesavaram village, where they were all childhood friends. Babu meets Vishalakshi a.k.a Baby (Aksha) in a strange situation, and very soon they fall in love. Subbu finally seems to have made it big, and while everyone is celebrating, an old feud fires up, leaving the would-be director with serious skull injuries. The friends, including Ajay's girl Madhavi (Monali Choudhry) and Baby, decide to pool up all sources for money for his surgery. They finally loan the amount from a merciless goon (Narsing). When he pressurizes them to repay him, they plan to rob from the security company where Kiran works, and they plan everything right, but Kiran decides to wait behind since it might hand them up all! Ajay and Babu get arrested by the police at the company, but that's after they realize someone else had already robbed all the money! Was Kiran true in his reason? What's his role in the robbery? How much does Subbu's accident really turn the story?
Performances
Cast Nikhil is at ease as a careless and fearless youth, but he needs to take care of his diction some more. Aksha is okay but has a short, insignificant role in the film that goes around friends. Ranaadheer, who also acted as senior student in Happy Days, has a considerably lengthy role in this film and he performs okay. His body language is stiff at times, though. Monali Choudhry is attractive but has a limited role as his love interest and the daughter of their house owner (played by Sivanarayana of Amrutham fame). Narasimha and Subhash fit in their roles well and have done good job. Sayaji Shinde as hardcore criminal Nananna who has a weak point of being a fan of Simran plays more a comedy role than that of a criminal.
Narsing and Jeeva appear as comedy-oriented baddies, offering some good comedy through a part of the film. Jayaprakash Reddy as the jailer, Sreenivasa Reddy as a sentry, and Prithvi as "Krishna Manohar IPS" do a good job within the scope of their roles. Sivanarayana as the house owner is intended for comedic relief, but falls short of expectations of people who may want to compare his similar role from his much-celebrated TV show Amrutham. Hero Siddharth and Krishnudu (of Happy Days and Vinayakudu fame) appear in the end of the film, rather unnecessarily.
Technical Departments

Debut director Parashuram comes up with an appreciable story line for the film. He also ensured a gripping screenplay and unveils the story carefully, maintaining elements of comedy and suspense in right proportions. In fact, it's notable that he has given more importance to the story than to the threads of romance between the two lead pairs. The taking goes in a good pace for most part; more care should have been taken in establishing the romance between the hero and heroine. Camerawork is okay, but the digital intermediatary (DI) work brings in inconsistencies pertaining to focus in a couple of scenes. Picturization of songs is okay, but it's more the lyrics that catch the attention of the audiences, and some tunes are catchy; choreography is okay too. Re-recording could have been better. Fights are choreographed in a natural style. Dialogues are very good and natural through most of the film, particularly depicting the hero's characterization. Editing is just okay. Production values are appreciable.
Last Word
While the title Yuvata is not really justified for a film on friends, the film is a decent entertainer in its own stride. Good story, okay performances, catchy tunes and lyrics, and no-nonsense screenplay, garnished with light comedy through dialogues and scenes may enhance the life of the film that opened in a rather low key. The film has a good interval bang and the second half has twists that enhance the tempo. The director should be appreciated for delivering his goods well. The hero who lost on his first solo hero film may gain better response to this film.
